Getting started
How do I create a blank?
Open a book, tap Add mask at the bottom, then drag across the part you want to hide. Tap a blank to reveal it and mark it correct or wrong.
Can I type the answer and be graded?
Yes. In the masking bar choose the underline style, then drag across a word. Tapping that blank opens a text field, and Check grades it immediately.
Can I hide every occurrence of the same word?
Yes — use Search & mask in the reader to blank every match at once. If you already have a list of terms and meanings, the keyword table creates all the blanks in one step.
Can I import PDFs or photos?
Yes. Inside a book, add a page and choose PDF, photo, image, or text. Long text is split into multiple pages automatically.
Studying and review
How are review times decided?
The app uses FSRS, a spaced-repetition algorithm. Blanks you answer correctly come back less often; blanks you keep missing come back sooner. You never have to schedule anything yourself.
Why do some blanks turn green or red?
That's the blank's cumulative correct rate — greener means you're getting it right, redder means you keep missing it. Turn off Result colors in the reader to go back to the original color.
I only want to redo the ones I got wrong.
In the page statistics, tap Retry and pick a threshold (below 80% / 60% / 40% / 20%). Only those blanks are hidden again.
I tapped correct/wrong by mistake.
An Undo button appears at the bottom for about 2 seconds after each answer. It cancels only that single answer — the rest of that blank's history stays intact.
Can I get review reminders?
In Settings, under Review reminders, turn on Remind me to review. iOS will ask for notification permission the first time. Reminders are created on your device only and are never sent anywhere.
Sync and backup
I want the same material on my iPad.
Make sure both devices are signed into iCloud with the same Apple Account and that BlankStudy is enabled in iOS Settings → Apple Account → iCloud. Syncing then happens automatically; you can also tap Sync now in Settings.
Settings says "Stored on this device".
That means you're not signed into iCloud, or iCloud is off for BlankStudy. The app still works completely and your material is stored safely on the device. Sign into iCloud in iOS Settings to start syncing.
What is a "conflict"?
It appears when the same item was edited on two devices. Open the conflict list in Settings and choose which version to keep.
How do I back everything up?
Settings → Save a backup, then choose a password; an encrypted backup file is created. To restore, use Restore from backup with that file and password. You can merge it with your current material or replace everything.
I forgot my backup password.
Unfortunately it cannot be recovered. The password is never stored anywhere, and the developer cannot open your backup file either. Please keep it somewhere safe.
Can I send a book to a friend?
Press and hold a book and choose Share book to create a book file. Send it via AirDrop or Messages — when the recipient taps the file, it opens straight into BlankStudy.
Other
How do I change the app language?
Settings → Language, and choose 한국어 / English / 日本語. It changes immediately, no restart needed. By default it follows your device language.
Does it work with Apple Pencil?
Yes. Turn on handwriting in the reader; strokes respond to pressure and tilt. You can also draw with your finger.
Is it paid? Are there ads?
It's free, with no in-app purchases, no subscription, and no ads.
Do I need an account?
No. There is no sign-up and no login.
How do I delete all my data?
Deleting the app removes the data stored on the device. Material synced to iCloud can be removed in iOS Settings → Apple Account → iCloud → Manage Storage → BlankStudy.
